Depart historic Hunters Hill Bowling Club.
On an easy one hour and thirty minutes walk, exploring the
sandstone heritage of Hunters Hill.
The walk shows
the unique stone walls, the houses, from
Georgian cottages to Victorian mansions,
plus the gardens and trees of, Sydney's first garden
suburb.
The abundance of sandstone structures including churches, public
buildings, houses and walls,
in such a small area are a joy to see and give this walk a
unique ambiance.
Finish at the Bowling Club.
These areas will be brought to life with facts and stories by
your friendly and experienced guide.

Hunters Hill and Woolwich Together
Starts at the Old School House – Gladstone Avenue
This walk allows groups to take in the ambiance of both
suburbs. Gladstone Avenue is the dividing line between Hunters
Hill and Woolwich. The first part of the walk goes west into
Hunters Hill and takes in the grand ‘boom time’ sandstone houses
for which the suburb is famous.
The commentary
gives the history of Hunters Hill and some fascinating facts on
its developers The Joubert Brothers and Edward Jeanneret and
does not forget to pay tribute to the stone mason skill of the
Italians and the labour of the Irish.
The walk then turns
east and into Woolwich with the remnants of its industrial
past particularly the great Woolwich Dock. We see how this ‘ugly
duckling’ has become an expensive ‘swan’. Walk includes Kelly’s
Bush.
At all times the
views are magnificent as at this narrow part of the Peninsular,
only ¼ of a kilometer across, there is the magnificent vista of
either the Parramatta River or the Lane Cove River. Recommended.
