Sydney Guided Walks -
Leichhardt
Leichhardt Walk
This walk gives groups a choice of two lengths.
-
The first is an easy 90 minutes finishing near
the Town Hall.
-
The second length has an extension of 25 minutes.
-
It is also possible for some in the group to wait in a
nearby Italian restaurant while the rest do the extension
loop, finishing back at the restaurant.
Leichhardt Walks
“This suburb’s name owes its origin to local land owner and
grocer, Walter Beames, supplying the explorer Ludwig Leichhardt,
with provisions for his expeditions. This and other fascinating
facts about the history of this area will be revealed on the
guided walk around Leichhardt.
Come and find out what lies hidden by the lawns and gardens of
Pioneers Memorial Park and hear the stories behind the streets
names such as Norton, Marion and Wetherill. Where once there
were dairy farms now sits the many restaurants that make ‘little
Italy”. In between the two eras, the building of heritage public
buildings including the Victorian Classical style Town Hall,
when built in 1888, considered to be ‘the best municipal
building outside the city of Sydney’.
We have chosen a great, reasonably priced Italian restaurant
that will set up a long table ready and waiting to receive the
walkers. This is, of course, optional, but we will book it for
you if required.
We provide bus numbers and times for travel to Leichhardt if
needed.”
