Sydney Guided Walks -
Macquarie Street
Macquarie Street Walk
A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY IN ONE STREET.
Macquarie Street named after Australia's fifth Governor Lachlan
Macquarie,
is as straight and full of character as its namesake.
This street contains some of this country's most historic
buildings from architect Francis Greenway's
St. James Church and Hyde Park Barracks to the old Rum Hospital,
now Parliament House, and the Mitchell Library.
All the fascinating history
of these buildings will be told but
this walk will also be a journey
of discovery going in, out and behind the facade of the street.
This will be an interactive tour
with so much big and small to
see and find.
Who will spot "Trim" the cat
on the window ledge or the statue
of Macquarie as he stands watching the walkers go by?
Further down are the Botanic Gardens, the old Government house
stables,
now the Conservatorium of Music with its newly discovered
convict drains.
The interesting sites
do not stop until the tour finishes at
Circular Quay.
Start: Entrance to St.
James Church.
Duration: 2 hours.
$20.00pp (Group Discounts Available)
NOTE: All start and finish areas can be flexible to the needs of
each group. Each tour aims to make information interesting and
history as the story of people. The walking pace is comfortable
with frequent stopping and sit downs where possible.
KNOWLEDGE, FRIENDSHIP AND SOCIAL INTERACTION ARE THE GREAT OUTCOMES OF A WALK WITH SYDNEY
GUIDED WALKS.
